Figueroa's hit lifts Tides in 11 innings

Staff report NORFOLK Paco Figueroa doubled with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning, driving in Craig Tatum, who had walked, and the Tides rallied to beat Indianapolis 3-2 at Harbor Park on Saturday night. The Tides trailed 2-1 with two outs in the last of the ninth but tied it when Rhyne Hughes scored on an error by Indians first baseman Jonathan Van Every on a ball hit by Tatum.

New pitcher heads to Tides

KANSAS CITY, Mo. The Baltimore Orioles traded left-hander Will Ohman to the Florida Marlins on Saturday for right-hander Rick VandenHurk. VandenHurk was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk after Saturday's trade, and third baseman Josh Bell was recalled from the Tides. Ohman, 32, was 0-0 with a 3.30 ERA in 51 appearances during his first season with the Orioles.

Home run foils Tides on the road

MOOSIC, Pa. The Norfolk Tides out-hit Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 10-5 on Friday night at PNC Field but the Yankees won 2-1 on Jorge Vazquez's 11th home run of the season. Vazquez's home run came in the second inning after Norfolk starter Chris George struck out Jesus Montero, but Montero was safe at first base because the third strike he had swung at went past the catcher for a wild pitch.

Allenson will return as Tides' skipper

The Norfolk Tides' new manager isn't really all that new. Gary Allenson will return to the Tides' dugout after serving almost eight weeks as the Baltimore Orioles' third-base coach. A Tides spokesman said interim manager Bobby Dickerson probably will return to his former position as roving minor league instructor, but no official announcement has been made.

Tides stave off Yankees' rally in ninth

MOOSIC, PA. Josh Bell and Nolan Reimold homered to help the Norfolk Tides beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 8-6 Wednesday night. Both hitters went deep in the third off David Phelps (1-2). Bell hit a two-run shot after Jeff Salazar doubled to start the inning. Reimold followed with a solo shot that put Norfolk up 5-1.

2-run HR breaks tie in 7th, sending Tides to defeat

MOOSIC, PA. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Chad Tracy hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning on Tuesday night to break a 2-2 tie and send the Yankees to a 4-2 victory over the Norfolk Tides. Tracy's home run to right field came after Eduardo Nunez's two-out bunt single.

Tides prevail over Lehigh Valley in 15 innings

ALLENTOWN, PA. The Norfolk Tides scored three runs on two errors in the 15th inning to pull out a 6-3 victory over Lehigh Valley on Monday night. Lehigh Valley overcame a 3-0 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the teams failed to score for the next nine innings.

Tides take early 2-0 lead, but fall in the late innings

ALLENTOWN, Pa. Neil Sellers' single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored John Mayberry with the deciding run Sunday in Lehigh Valley's 3-2 victory over the Norfolk Tides at Coca-Cola Park. The Tides took a 2-0 lead in the second on RBI singles by Matt Angle and Robert Andino. Chris Agulia's run-scoring double and Sellers' RBI single in the sixth tied it for the IronPigs.

Ex-U.Va. pitcher helps foil the Tides

ALLENTOWN, PA. Ozzie Chavez hit a two-run home run and John Mayberry added a solo shot as the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs totalled 11 hits and defeated the Norfolk Tides 6-4 on Saturday night. Lehigh Valley starter Nate Bump (8-4, 3.33 ERA) gave up seven hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Aubrey's surge continues as Tides cruise

ALLENTOWN, PA. The visiting Norfolk Tides clubbed three home runs in beating the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 8-3 on Friday night. Josh Bell and Brandon Snyder both homered in the second inning as Norfolk jumped to a 3-0 lead. Snyder hit a two-run shot. Michael Aubrey added a three-run shot in the seventh that made it 6-0. The home run was Aubrey's ninth in July and 14th for the season.
